OUR VISION:
To entertain, challenge, and inspire our audiences through dynamic theatre experiences that amplify diverse voices and celebrate our humanity.
OUR MANDATE:
To produce theatre that engages and entertains audiences through the perspective of diverse narratives, and to inform and celebrate the human journey. We provide an environment for artists to bring new ideas and offer a structure to put those ideas on stage. Through this process of collaboration, we offer opportunities for artists to cultivate and hone their craft.
OUR VALUES:
Diversity:
We value the practice of involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds, ages, different genders and sexual orientations.
Inclusivity:
We value inclusion as a measure of a theatre culture that enables diversity to thrive.
Community:
We value accessible opportunities for community participation and strive to actively seek local knowledge and expertise.
Respect:
We value a respectful work and creative space where all who participate are treated fairly. Difference is acknowledged and valued, communication is open, conflict is addressed early and there is a culture of empowerment and cooperation.
Territorial acknowledgement:
Attitude Theatre Society acknowledges the traditional territory of the Lək̓ʷəŋən speaking people, also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations communities, who have been here since time immemorial, and on whose territory we live, create and produce theatre art.
As a theatre organization, we stand against the systems of oppression that have dispossessed Indigenous people of their lands and denied their rights to self-determination. We do this by approaching culturally specific works with humility as co-learners in the creative process.
